PostgreSQL/MySQL DBA

Job Description

Our primary business targets are the Japanese and other Asian markets. Hypermedia Systems , Inc. was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in downtown Los Angeles. We offer an exciting fast-paced environment with many challenging projects. The candidate will be responsible for deployment and maintenance of PostgreSQL/MySQL Databases and data backup and recovery in a 24/7 environment. Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to, configuration, integration, disaster recovery, and on-call duties. In addition, while under the management of the Database department, this hands-on position will work closely with software engineers and developers. The position also includes monitoring, diagnosing, and optimizing database performance. The DBA will also assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures. Other responsibilities include documenting database architecture and ensuring the security and integrity of the databases. They will implement data models, database designs, data access, table maintenance, and code changes.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4+ years of PostgreSQL/MySQL databases
  • Performance tuning PostgreSQL/MySQL
  • Assist development teams in optimizing for PostgreSQL/MySQL
  • PostgreSQL/MySQL backup and restore
  • Designing and managing PostgreSQL/MySQL database schemas
  • Experience in security access control
  • Full project life cycle experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, able to work both in a team and solo
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure

Desirable Skills

  • PL/SQL knowledge is a plus
  • Experience setting up and using PostgreSQL/MySQL replication is a big plus
  • Basic Unix/Linux admin experience

We are currently seeking Application Security professionals to work with multiple product teams in specialty areas.

Job Duties

  • Assist product teams in ensuring security occurs at all phases and steps of the SDLC.
  • Understand product teams’ current and planned application architectures, project plans, and goals.
  • Lead the overall application review process.
  • Identify application vulnerabilities using suite of security tools, and develop test plans.
  • Ensure protection of sensitive data / provide encryption at all network layers. Isolate sensitive data and ensure appropriate additional countermeasures and monitoring takes place.
  • Champion, evangelize, and facilitate processes intrinsic to security, including change management and change control, access control, identity management, privilege separation, etc.
  • Recommend solutions and assist creation of secure development environments.
  • Propose architectural changes, and design, coordinate, and implement these changes at both a procedural and technology level.

Desirable Skills

  • C, C++, Perl, Java, JSP, ASP, PHP, etc.
  • Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL
  • Any direct experience with OWASP type threats, i.e. buffer overflows, SQL injection, input validation, broken access control, etc.
  • Security tools: WebInspect, AppDetective, FoundScan, Nmap, Nessus, N-Stealth, Nikto, etc.
  • Previous SDLC documentation experience. More documentation at interview = better.
  • Experience with eCommerce, credit card processing, fraud detection / risk management, or affiliate systems strongly preferred.
  • General open-source aptitude, especially participation in open-source projects.
  • SysAdmin experience, or good working knowledge of Solaris, Linux, BSD, or any other *nix OS.

Systems Administrator

We are large enough to provide a stable work environment, yet small enough topresent many opportunities for growth and advancement. We currently have approximately 100 full-time employees on staff.

Successful applicants will have one to three years of real-world system administration experience. Responsibilities will include the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Linux/Sun servers and related equipment, as well as creation and upkeep of specifications and documentation. You will evaluate hardware and software for projects, and contribute to architectural designs; work closely with clients and developers to rapidly bring new products to market; and ensure that existing products are able to meet the demands of end users. Experience with on-call duties, issue escalation and resolution is a must. Individual must be self-motivated and possess independent problem solving abilities. You must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to efficiently work within a team as well as individually.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional Linux administration experience. Redhat 7.x or ES/AS a plus.
  • Experience installing and tuning operating systems.
  • Experience with installing and configuring software packages in UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Experience maintaining system and data security and integrity.
  • Web serving experience, including Apache and/or Zeus, authentication, performance tuning, SSL, and load balancing (Foundry, F5, etc.)
  • General understanding of hardware (Intel, Sun), including memory type, multi-processor machines, network interface cards, RAID and/or FiberChannel.
  • General understanding of IP networking, including address allocation, sub netting and basic routing.

Desirable Skills

  • Sun/Solaris experience.
  • Enterprise backup experience (Veritas NetBackup, Tivoli, etc.)
  • Some scripting skills (Perl, bash, csh, etc.)
  • Open source mail systems , (qmail, sendmail, postfix, etc.)
  • PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle.
  • Experience with SAN/NAS technology, NFS, GFS, or similar solutions.
  • Some knowledge of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and network appliances.
